What is “SpeakEasy”?

SpeakEasy is the name of the fun, supportive, online French/English conversation group created by Frannie from Sound More French and Sarah from Sarah Speaks English

It is a monthly get together on Zoom for anglophones learning French and francophones learning English. Participants have the opportunity to practise their language skills in a relaxed and informal session.

Moreover, it is a fabulous way to make new friends and become more confident at speaking French from the comfort of your own home – bring your own wine and snacks!

How does the French/English conversation group work?

Sessions run every first Wednesday of  the month from 7pm-8.30pm UK time.

Firstly, Frannie and Sarah welcome everyone before carefully placing participants into smaller Breakout Rooms where they speak English for the first 15 minutes, then swap to French for a further quarter of an hour.

For the second half of the evening, we rearrange the Breakout Rooms to give everyone the opportunity to meet new people and the process is repeated.

At the end, we regroup for a fun, bilingual game.

What SpeakEasy Participants are saying…

“I enjoyed the whole experience and it was great getting the chance to speak in our small groups. The game at the end of the session was great fun!”

I really enjoyed the SpeakEasy session! It was expertly organised by Frannie and Sarah and was a fabulous way to improve confidence in speaking. It’s often difficult getting the opportunity to converse with native speakers and SpeakEasy solved this problem – all from the comfort of your own home!

I wasn’t sure if my French was good enough to join and so I was a bit apprehensive. I soon felt at ease talking with some very gentle and friendly people.

Despite being worried before hand it was a really enjoyable and mutually supportive experience.

Really enjoyed the session and thought it was brilliantly organised and well thought through. I felt quite nervous at first but then just realised everyone else was and just went for it. I always feel quite tongue-tied and can never find the right things to say but in this type of forum it felt easier.
