Coucou les ami(e)s !

It’s Halloween and the perfect moment to add a little spooky sparkle to your French Halloween vocabulary.

Every year, I see learners mix up costume and déguisement, and it’s no wonder. In English, we wear costumes. In French, un costume means a man’s suit.

So if you want to talk about fancy-dress outfits or Halloween costumes, the word you need is un déguisement. And the verb to dress up in French is se déguiser.
