Using these words in real sentences

French people often mention the weather or the season when chatting, so these are great to practise in simple sentences:

  • J’adore l’automne, surtout les feuilles mortes dans le parc.
I love autumn, especially the fallen leaves in the park.

  • Ce matin, il y a du brouillard et un vent frais.
This morning, there’s fog and a cool wind.

  • On va au verger pour cueillir des pommes et des champignons.
We’re going to the orchard to pick apples and mushrooms.

Try saying these out loud a few times to get the rhythm of the language. It’s one of the easiest ways to remember new words and sound more French.

A little culture tip

Les vendanges means the grape harvest, but it also refers to the time of year when vineyards are full of activity. In many regions, people celebrate with a fête des vendanges, often with local wine, food, and music. If you visit France in September or October, you might see signs for these events in villages or markets.

Mini challenge

Write or record a short sentence using at least three of these new words.
Example: En automne, j’aime manger les champignons et marcher dans le brouillard avec mon écharpe et regarder les feuilles mortes tomber.

Keep it short and natural, and say it out loud to build confidence.
