Be honest…
If your phone rang tomorrow and the voice on the other end spoke French, would you feel calm – or slightly (!) panicked?
Would you…
-
Rather drive somewhere to speak face-to-face instead of speaking French on the phone?
-
Avoid answering?
-
Write a full script beforehand?
-
Feel your anxiety spike at the mere thought of speaking French on the phone?
-
Simply avoid it altogether?
Oui ?
Honestly, that makes sense.
When you speak French on the phone, you lose all your safety nets.
This what makes us feel anxious…
Why speaking French on the phone feels hard…
French phone calls aren’t harder because your French is “bad”.
They feel harder because you need a specific skillset:
-
How to start the call naturally
-
How to ask someone to repeat
-
How French numbers actually work
-
How to spell clearly
-
What to say if the line is bad
These are practical French telephone expressions and strategies that most learners are never explicitly taught.
The good news?
You can learn to speak French on the phone with more confidence.
It’s a skill.
And skills can be learned.

Meet Your Teachers!
Salut, I’m Frannie!
I help English speakers sound more French and feel more confident when speaking.
Over the years I’ve worked with hundreds of learners who can understand French perfectly well… but freeze when it comes to certain real-life situations. Speaking on the phone is one of the most common challenges I hear about.
I focus on the practical skills that make the biggest difference in everyday communication – pronunciation, listening confidence, and knowing what to say in real-life situations.
In my classes, I create a relaxed and friendly learning space where you feel comfortable having a go and practising out loud – without worrying about getting everything perfect.
I’ll be running these workshops together with Judith.
Many of you will already know Judith from the Sound More French Café, where she is our wonderful Confidence Coach.
Judith has a Masters degree in French (Interpreting and Translation), and has lived in France for the past 13 years with her French husband and their bilingual children. Through daily life, family life and work, she has developed a deep understanding of how French is used in real-world situations.
She teaches group French classes alongside me and supports learners inside the Café as they build the confidence to speak more freely.
Judith brings a calm, encouraging presence to the workshops and will be helping guide the listening activities and roleplays so you can practise real-life scenario phone calls in a supportive setting.
A supportive learning Environment…
Teaching together means we can give you plenty of guidance and support as you practise.
Our goal is to create a relaxed, friendly space where you can experiment with the language, try things out, and build the confidence you need to handle French phone calls calmly in real life.

If you needed to make a phone call tomorrow…
Would you still want to drive miles to avoid it?
Or, would you love to be able to calmly pick up the phone and say:
Bonjour, [Your Name] à l’appareil…
What previous students have said…
“I loved it, you have a friendly, relaxed and very clear style which is very understandable. It was a really nice way to spend three (maybe nearer 4) hours of a weekend! All the other students were lovely and friendly as well (which helps)… Group work can be a bit nerve wracking when working with people you’ve never met before – but it was great.”
The 3 main benefits were…”First is getting the useful phrases. Two was practicing the numbers – that was fantastic!! And I love that you only concentrated on the hard and confusing numbers! That was a big help. And then a BIG thing I didn’t know what the alphabet and using the set, accepted names (half of which I’ve never heard of before lol). I have printed this out- very very useful.”
“Firstly, many thanks for a fabulous workshop. I thoroughly enjoyed it and learnt a lot. Here is my feedback…
The things I found particularly useful were:
- The Alphabet Section with names to match the letters.
- Automated phone message examples
- Practising the higher numbers at speed was extremely useful.
Once again, thank you for a fantastic workshop, and I look forward to doing more.”
“I absolutely hate talking on the phone in English, let alone French…I also hate using Zoom…so I had to step out of my comfort zone to do this workshop. But you made it so easy and relaxed, I would happily do any other Zoom workshops with you having experienced this one…I would encourage anybody to make the leap and attend a workshop, even if they don’t feel confident with the subject matter or technology…It’s a great workshop and I would recommend it to anybody.”
